Eligibility Criteria
- Maximum running time 20 minutes
- Must be written and/or directed by a person of African descent
- World Premieres only with the exception of films screened in association with a student's enrollment in an accredited University or participation in a Guild related showcase.
- Film must have been completed post January 1, 2011
- Documentary shorts are not eligible
Programming Philosophy
Films submitted for consideration in the short film section must be world premieres and must be written or directed by a person of African descent. Films are reviewed by HBO & ABFF's Screening Committee (comprised of film industry professionals) and graded based on artistic merit and commercial appeal. The top scoring films are invited to participate as an official selection of the festival. The 2012 festival will be inviting 5 short films to this section.
Competitive Award
Films accepted to this section compete for the HBO SHORT FILM AWARD.
