A big thank you to everyone who attended and supported the 21st annual American Black Film Festival, June 14-18, in Miami Beach. ABFF 2017 wrapped on a high note with independent filmmakers Eden Marryshow taking home the grand prize for Best Director ($25,000), presented by Cadillac; Devin E. Haqq the Best Narrative Feature award ($5,000) for Ambition's Debt, presented by Prudential and Halima Lucas received the Short Film Award ($10,000) for Amelia's Closet, presented by HBO, who this year celebrated the 20th year of the HBO Short Film Competition. The 5-day event kicked off with the world premiere of Girls Trip, followed by sneak peaks of the hottest new shows on TV and celebrity appearances by beloved actors and filmmakers including ABFF 2017 Ambassador, Regina Hall, Terrence Howard and John Singleton, in support of the latest in Black film and TV. We consider ABFF 2017 the best one ever, which speaks to the power of our united community!
