ABFF on Tour is a traveling exhibition of Black and urban-inspired
independent films. Its mission is to promote the work of independent filmmakers
to diverse communities while cultivating a theatrical market for independent
Black cinema nationwide.
Conceived as a spin-off of the American
Black Film Festival, this unprecedented tour will give you the opportunity
to see films, which are typically limited to the film festival circuit,
at your local movie theater. As an enhancement to the moviegoing experience,
select screenings are followed by a Q&A session with the filmmaker
or a cast member. ABFF on Tour will visit six to ten major cities each
year.
The ABFF,
founded in 1997, is a five-day retreat and international film market dedicated
to strengthening the Black film community. Its film slate is primarily
composed of world premieres, positioning it as the top film festival in
the world for Black and urban content. Since its inception, the ABFF has
screened more than 500 films and has rewarded and redefined artistic excellence
in independent filmmaking.
The festival, held each year in South beach, attracts close to 3,000
film enthusiasts with a unique mix of celebrities, industry executives,
media, corporate sponsors and aspiring artists. In addition to its film
showcases, the ABFF is unsurpassed in its facilitation of networking and
is committed to nurturing artists in a variety of disciplines by offering
symposiums and educational workshops for actors, filmmakers and writers.
Driven by a commitment to cultivate audiences for independent films and
promote cultural diversity within the motion picture industry, the ABFF
has become a highly respected artistic institution and force in the commercial
development of independent Black film.
