Social Impact Showcase: The ABFF Social Impact Video Showcase is the American Black Film Festival’s newest submission category. Launching at the 2019 festival, it is an exhibition of films based on a cause-related theme relevant to communities of color.

This year’s topic is Fatherhood: The Foundation of the Black Family. The goal of this showcase is to change the narrative of black fathers by highlighting their presence, importance and contribution to the black family, and by extension, the black community, thereby positively affecting society’s view of the subject.

The projects selected for this category provide perspectives that are different from mainstream media’s portrayal of black men as fathers. These films will feature all of positive ways black fathers are interacting with their children, co-parenting with the mothers and influencing the next generation of black men. The screenings are accompanied by Q&A sessions with the filmmakers allowing for further discussion on this topic.

Deadlines and Fees:

  • Submissions Open: December 11, 2018
  • Submissions Close: January 31, 2019
  • Submission Fee: $30
